Surrey Voices
A mixed-voice choir based in Farnham, Surrey Voices is a group of experienced singers, both amateur and professional, who perform from time to time under the leadership of Malcolm Hicks.
A short series of rehearsals is held in central Farnham, before each event, and rehearsals are carefully scheduled not to conflict with the regular activities of other local choirs.
Participation is by invitation and/or audition as appropriate. Auditions are arranged individually at any time, and usually take place at Farnham United Reform Church, South Street, Farnham. Anyone interested in singing with us is invited to get in touch through the contact page to arrange a time. All singers are guaranteed a friendly, gentle, sympathetic audition!
There is no subscription to pay.
Please see our events page for details of performances currently planned, for this year and further ahead.
Feedback from our recent
Messiah performance...
‘Glorious!’ - (L Katz, Farnham)
Just wanted to say what a terrific Messiah you gave us. The choir excelled itself: incredibly light and flexible, and wonderfully exciting to listen to - I've never heard sheep go so fast! It was enthralling, choir and orchestra. I specially liked the way the movements linked up with barely perceptible gaps: it just flowed so beautifully, and then built to such a tremendous climax in 'Worthy..' and the thrilling 'Amen'.(Mary Weston)
"Thank you for the WONDERFUL concert on Saturday! It was marvellous, and everybody I spoke to found it so!” (SJP congregation member)
I thought the concert at SJP was terrific. It was the best performance I have ever sung in, and I have sung Messiah many times! (choir-member)
I want to let you know just how much I enjoyed the recent Messiah concert at St James's Church, Piccadilly. It was a 'good as it gets' musical and spiritual experience. The performance of the lead singers, chorus and orchestra was enthusiastic sensitive and inspired…….. I think somewhere in heaven Handel and Wren might be saying to one another: ‘This is what we did it for!’ On the night, the audience surely seemed to agree. (Tom Cook, SJP)
